Unable to scan multiple pages when using PaperPort 12
Problem:
When using an ADF (automatic document feeder) scanner in PaperPort 12, it may not be possible to scan multiple pages at a time without user intervention.
Cause:
This may occur when using an out-of-date scanner driver, or by not properly configuring the scanner to run in PaperPort.
Solution:
There may be multiple solutions to this issue. Please reference each possible solution in the order shown below, and proceed to the next solution if the issue persists.
Solution # 1: Update the scanner's TWAIN driver:
-
In order to update the scanner's TWAIN driver, contact the scanner manufacturer for latest TWAIN scanner driver.
Note: It should be possible to download the scanner driver from the scanner manufacturer's website. For example, if using a Brother scanner then navigate to "http://www.brother.com/". Drivers will usually be found under the "Support" menu. Make sure to download the latest "TWAIN" driver for the exact model scanner being used, and that the driver was designed to run on the same Operating System that is being used.
Solution # 2: Enable ADF in the Scanning Profile:
- Launch PaperPort 12.
- From the Scan or Get Photo pane, select the Scanning Profile being used (for example "Color Document").
- Click the "Settings..." button.
- Click the "Scan" tab.
- Set the Source option to "ADF" (or "Duplex ADF" if available).
- Click "OK".
- Scan a multiple page document using the Scanning Profile selected in Step 2, and verify whether PaperPort is scanning multiple pages without prompting for user intervention.
Solution # 3: Complete the Scanner Setup Wizard:
- Click the "Select" button in the Scan or Get Photo pane.
- Click the "Advanced setup" button in the "Available Scanners" window to start the ScanSoft Scanner Setup Wizard (SSW).
- Select the "Yes" radio button when asked "Would you like to download the latest scanner database from ScanSoft?", then click "Next".
- When prompted whether to test the device, select the "Yes" option and click "Next". The user may be prompted to click the "Yes" button again before proceeding to the tests.
- To test the connection to the scanner, click "Next".
Note: If a window pops-up displaying "Scanner Not Found" check the cables and click "Try Again". If the scanner is still not found, please refer to the documentation that came with the scanner.
- From the list of tests, select "Basic scan test (Recommended)" and "Check ADF capabilities", then click "Next".
- Click "Next" to start the tests.
- The scanner's native scanning interface should appear. When it does, select the appropriate settings and then click the "Scan" button.
Note: If the image is missing then click the "Missing Image" button and try scanning again.
- The Scanner Setup Wizard will detect the type of ADF scanner that is connected. Make sure the correct option is selected, then click "Next".
Note: If unsure of the correct scanner type, please refer to the documentation that came with the scanner.
- Place multiple pages in the ADF paper holder, then click "Next" to begin the ADF test.
- When prompted, remove the pages from the ADF paper holder and click "Next" again.
- Click "Next" and then "Finish" to complete the testing.
Solution # 4: Hide the scanner's native user interface:
- To hide the scanner's native user interface, uncheck the "Display scanner dialog box" option in the Scan or Get Photo pane, then scan a multiple page document.
- If the "Display scanner dialog box" option is not accessible, please see Technote 5390: "Show Scanner Dialog Box option checked and disabled" for steps on hiding the scanner's native user interface.
Solution # 5: Add a scanner hint:
- To add a scanner hint using the Scanner Setup Wizard, please see Technote 4956: "A prompt for more pages appears after every page scanned through an ADF" for steps on enabling a specific scanner hint.
Solution # 6: If PaperPort is still not able to scan multiple pages when using a properly configured ADF scanner, please contact Nuance Technical Support for further assistance:
